Your tuition and your tutors

About your tuition

Our priority is to ensure the tuition you receive on your painting holiday gives you the confidence and skills you require to enhance and develop your creativity. For this reason our tuition is informal, relaxed and allows for one to one instruction.

At Creative Holidays Spain we believe that personal attention given to individuals is important and significantly helps develop confidence for some. For this reason we restrict our tuition groups to a maximum of 8 people.

The tuition is set at each persons own level of ability, allowing for beginners as well as the more accomplished artist.

For beginners there is the opportunity to learn the basic knowledge and skills needed before you start painting. We have successfully taught absolute beginners who have been convinced that they cannot paint or draw, but have always wanted to try.
Dear Ian,
This note is just to say thank you so much for a wonderful painting holiday and for the marvellous trips you took us on, and for your patience. Nothing was too much trouble for you. I am going to continue going to my classes which is thanks to you and Jim’s encouragement.
Best regards
Elizabeth

Whether you work in oils, watercolours, gouache, or acrylics, new skills, techniques and handy tips can be learned quickly with effective tuition. You will return from one of our painting holidays not only with better work, but with new skills and ideas you can develop further when you return home.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about art materials and their uses, which surfaces to use, tips for oils, acrylics, watercolours; deciding what subjects to paint and what scale to use.

The quality of the light in Andalucia is rich and intense and colour is strong and clear. There are numerous sources of inspiration for your painting. As you only have a week to take all this in, we provide plenty of opportunity while on the trips, to take photographic records for reference for you to work on when you get home.

Most of the tuition and painting sessions are done at the hotel, with the opportunity to paint when we go out on location or on the trips.

We have the use of a big, well lit studio space for our painting, as well as the shaded area at the back of the hotel underneath a huge tree in a cobbled courtyard area.

It has been found by many painting holiday providers that their clients usually prefer to have all the painting resources they require on the door-step. This is why we have chosen the particular hotel we use at Creative Holidays Spain, as it offers ideal landscapes and scenery for painting without having to travel to far, and allows people the chance to 'drop in' on the tuition sessions when they are ready.

Your Tutors

Your main tutor, Ian Antonio, is a professional artist and has been painting most of his adult life. His creativity was first expressed through drawing and water-colour. In later years he has focused on working with acrylics and oils for his own work, but he teaches in a variety of media.

Ian has taught painting and drawing at adult education classes and art clubs in the UK and now provides the painting tuition at Creative Holidays Spain.

He has had his paintings exhibited both in the UK and in Spain, and over the years he has undertaken various painting commissions for people, and his work is to be found in America, UK, and europe.

Our support tutor, Jim Nitchen, spent his early life exploring and drawing the landscapes and wildlife of rural Hertfordshire. He studied at Ware College in Hertfordshire after which he worked for 10 years in the commercial art sector, where he gained valuable experience using different techniques and media in art. He then became a freelance artist, which he remains to this day.

Jim has worked on various creative projects that have taken him on many trips in the UK and around the world. His work has been published in books, magazines, posters and other publications.

He has had many exhibitions of his paintings, with his work finding its way to Australia, Europe and America. He now lives in Andalucia where he draws his inspiration for his painting. Jim has been working mainly in watercolour for his own work, but has experience in a wide range of other media and techniques.

Both tutors will be providing your tuition on your holiday, working on different days. This allows for a broader range of skills, experience and techniques to be passed on to you.

We ensure that your painting holiday is constructive, builds confidence and we trust you make new friends at the same time as developing your painting skills.
