Extra Activities for your holiday

There are many other activities you or your non-painting partner can take part in while on your painting holiday. Here are a few ideas …..

As we are based between 3 Natural Parks with lots of natural countryside, there is plenty of space to enjoy a variety of activities whilst enjoying this pristine region.

This part of Spain includes mountains with craggy outcrops, huge ancient forests, river valleys, gorges, an abundance of different plants and flowers, many stunning far reaching views over the mountainous landscape, and tiny white villages dotted around, clinging to the hillsides and mountains – and none of it spoilt by tourism.

This area is literally a breath of fresh air, and a feast for the eyes. It is the ideal location for our painting holidays, because it is Spain as it used to be with many local festivities throughout the summer.

Let’s have a look at just some of the activities ...

Horse Riding

There are many hotels and equestrian centers in the region that provide horse riding, giving you the opportunity to ride through this lovely area. Most riding centers offer a variety of trail lengths from 2 hour rides for novice riders to 8 – 10 hour rides, with a lunch stop, for competent riders.

Walking

This is a stunning area for walking. There are many paths through the Genal Valley which join one village to the next. As the valley is covered in trees you are provided with shade which makes walking more comfortable when it gets hot.

There are also many long trails in the Natural Parks in the area, all providing stunning scenery.

Bird Watching

The variety of birds in this region makes it ideal for bird watching. In Andalucia up to 20 Warblers may be seen along with, Storks, Herons, Egrets, Terns, Larks, Pipits, Swallows, Swifts, Martins, Tits and Buntings. A splash of colour is added with Hoopoe, Golden Oriole, Roller, Shrikes, Serin and Kingfisher.

The region is also host to many, rare and endangered species such as Red-knobbed Coot, Marbled and White-headed Duck, Purple Swamphen, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture, Black Stork and Glossy Ibis. Many species on most wanted lists also appear, Penduline Tit, Black Wheatear, Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush, Bonelli’s Eagle, Eagle Owl, Red-necked Nightjar, Audouin’s and Slender-billed Gulls to name but a few.

Mountain Railway to Ronda

One of the most stunning mountain railways of Spain is right on the door-step. The line runs from Algeciras to Ronda right through this stunning mountainous area, which provide you with stunning views.

The line crosses high viaducts, plunges into many dark tunnels, weaving its way through the mountains, and finally brings you to Ronda. You can pick up the train at different stations along the way. This makes a great day out and gives you an alternative method of traveling to Ronda.

We can provide help and advice if you wish to take part in any of these activities while you are on your holiday, and arrange any necessary bookings.

Here are details of the various holidays and festivals in Andalucia which start in the Spring and go right through the year.
